Agent Game (2022) – A Shadowy Game of Betrayal
Agent Game is a political action thriller that dives deep into the world of covert CIA operations and internal betrayal. The film centers on Harris, a seasoned CIA operative played by Dermot Mulroney, who becomes the fall guy for a rendition mission gone wrong. When a detainee mysteriously dies, Harris is blamed and targeted by his own agency.
As Harris tries to clear his name, he is pursued by a private strike team led by ruthless agents who are unknowingly part of a much bigger scheme. Mel Gibson plays Olsen, a powerful figure pulling the strings behind the scenes. What starts as a simple manhunt quickly unravels into a complex web of lies, manipulation and shifting loyalties.
The action is fast paced, with shootouts, chases and intense confrontations. However, the storytelling can feel disjointed, with timeline jumps and multiple character arcs that sometimes clash rather than connect. Despite these flaws, the film offers a gritty portrayal of how disposable operatives can become when politics take over missions.
The cast also includes Katie Cassidy, Jason Isaacs and Barkhad Abdi, though their roles are not as fully explored as they could have been. The performances are solid, but the script holds them back from delivering more impact.
Agent Game may not revolutionize the genre, but it offers just enough suspense and action to keep fans of spy thrillers engaged. It is a story about loyalty, sacrifice and survival in a system designed to erase anyone who knows too much. In the end, it reminds viewers that in the world of espionage, the real enemy might be the one giving the orders.
