Gremlins 3 – Mogwai Darkness on the Horizon
For decades, fans have wondered if Gremlins would ever return—and now it appears Warner Bros. has quietly lifted the curtain. As of early 2025, Gremlins 3 is officially in development, with original writer Chris Columbus once again leading the creative charge. He has confirmed that a complete script already exists.
Columbus describes his screenplay as dark and twisted, intentionally aiming to recapture the tone of the original 1984 film—not the more comedic sequel. He’s proud of the direction, and has suggested the plot even touches on whether Gizmo should be killed, given the havoc his offspring can cause, raising unexpected moral questions.
Another key promise: minimal CGI. Columbus is adamant the creatures will overwhelmingly be practical puppets and animatronics, maintaining that tactile chaos is essential. Use of CGI would be limited to wire removal or minor enhancements—not full creature animation.
Officially, Warner Bros. and Amblin are developing the project, and production is reportedly contingent on resolving underlying rights issues. Alongside Gremlins 3, Columbus is also writing a sequel to The Goonies, signaling broader support for reviving classic Amblin properties.
While no release date, director, or cast have been announced—and Hollywood skepticism remains—there’s renewed momentum behind the project. It has not yet entered active production, but insiders confirm it’s moving forward in development.
If produced as currently envisioned, Gremlins 3 could combine franchise nostalgia with horror‑thriller intensity. It promises a return to practical effects, moral edge, and chaotic fun rooted in the very DNA that made the original both beloved and notorious.
After all these years, the mogwai may be preparing to unleash chaos again—and this time, it won’t be in candy colors.
