Hidden Strike – East Meets West, and Everything Blows Up

Hidden Strike (2023), directed by Scott Waugh, is a globe-trotting action ride that pairs two unlikely heroes in the middle of a desert war zone, mixing martial arts mayhem with military-grade firepower. It’s big, loud, and proudly over-the-top—just what you’d expect from a Jackie Chan and John Cena team-up.

Set in a near-future Middle East, the film follows ex-special forces soldier Luo Feng (Jackie Chan), assigned to escort Chinese oil refinery workers out of Iraq’s dangerous “Highway of Death.” When the convoy is ambushed by mercenaries trying to seize control of the region’s resources, Luo crosses paths with Chris Van Horne (John Cena), a former U.S. Marine turned rogue protector with personal ties to the conflict.

Reluctantly teaming up, the two must battle through heavily armed enemies, booby-trapped roads, and double-crosses to get the civilians to safety—and uncover a hidden agenda that goes far beyond oil.

Hidden Strike thrives on its action set pieces: rooftop chases, mid-air stunts, and full-blown desert battles. Jackie Chan brings his trademark agility and physical comedy, while Cena delivers brute strength and comic timing. Their chemistry may be formulaic, but it’s undeniably fun.

The film doesn’t try to be deep—it aims to entertain. The dialogue is light, the villains are cartoonishly bad, and the message is clear: when East and West join forces, expect explosions.
