Prey

A Fierce Return to the Hunt

Following the unexpected critical and audience success of Prey (2022), 20th Century Studios has officially released the first teaser trailer for its highly anticipated sequel, Prey 2. Returning in the lead role is Amber Midthunder as Naru, the brave and determined Comanche warrior who survived her first deadly encounter with the Predator. The teaser, though under a minute in length, delivers a chilling glimpse into the next chapter of Naru’s journey and the terrifying threat that awaits her.

The trailer opens with haunting visuals of the North American wilderness in the late 18th century. The forest is vast, silent, and ominous—nature itself seems to brace for an approaching danger. The ambient sounds of wind and rustling leaves are interrupted by a mechanical clicking—an unmistakable signal that a Predator has arrived. Through shadowy trees and fog-laden paths, the camera moves as if mimicking the perspective of a hidden observer. The atmosphere is thick with tension, portraying a world where something far more advanced and lethal lurks just beyond sight.

Naru, now more seasoned and resolute, emerges in the trailer as a leader and a warrior. Her expression is fierce, and her movements confident, wielding upgraded weapons inspired by her previous battle experience. She now faces not just a more advanced Predator, but a more complex world—caught between defending her people from colonial invaders and confronting a new alien enemy. This dual threat sets the stage for a more intense and emotionally charged conflict.

The Predator itself seems even more dangerous than before. Brief flashes reveal enhanced cloaking technology, sleeker armor, and new weapons that hint at a higher level of intelligence and brutality. This isn't merely a fight for survival—it's a war against a predator that learns and evolves.

What makes this teaser particularly compelling is its restrained storytelling. There is little dialogue—just images, sounds, and glances that speak volumes. The director, Dan Trachtenberg, returns to helm the sequel and once again uses visual language and atmospheric tension to tell a gripping story. He avoids showing too much, choosing instead to build suspense through pacing and tone. This approach promises a sequel that remains faithful to the primal intensity of the first film, while raising the stakes significantly.

The trailer ends with a chilling juxtaposition: Naru’s handcrafted blade pressed against the cold metal of the Predator’s mask. A silent vow of vengeance, a declaration of war, and a symbol of survival—all within a single frame.

While Prey 2 has not yet received an official release date, it is slated to debut sometime in 2025. If the teaser is any indication, this sequel aims to blend visceral action with deeper themes of resilience, identity, and the enduring spirit of indigenous resistance. With Amber Midthunder leading the charge, Prey 2 is shaping up to be a bold continuation of a now-revitalized sci-fi legacy
